One of the things that I pride myself on is the relationship I have with the author. I try to find out what that author wants and what his/her style is before I undertake the project. I feel as if reading a sample of the manuscript will give me a good idea of what is needed.
In addition to doing a sample edit, I would like to preview 2-3 scenes from the middle of the manuscript to determine the author’s style and the level of editing it would require. After gauging the time it might require, we would discuss deadlines and how often he/she would like updates. I realize that some authors like to revise and go over the entire manuscript at once, while others would rather take it a few chapters at a time. I will work with each author to determine what works best for the both of us.
