Hello, my name is Petra (pronounced Pay’-truh), and I love everything pertaining to words. I am, by nature, an extrovert, and I often find myself spending time with others, connecting with them, encouraging them, crying with them, laughing with them, and praying with them.
But I find myself, as I get older, Spending more time being introspective. It doesn’t happen very often, so I try and document it in some way. If I find my thoughts might be of some help to others, I am going to publish them.
I want to tell you a little about who I am:
There are so many things that I LOVE to do, but I find myself getting more and more frustrated with not having enough time to enjoy them as much as I would like.
When I was a child, my grandmother, and then my mom, taught me to crochet and I have been doing that ever since. It is one of those on-again-off-again hobbies that depend on whether I have carpal tunnel pain or not.
Although I may be found in front of the television watching the latest episodes of my favorite series on Netflix, or the latest superhero movie, I will try to incorporate that with crocheting.
I LOVE TO READ! I have since I was in Kindergarten and discovered I was one of the only 4-year- olds that knew how to read. I would go to the school library as often as I could. Like most adolescent girls I devoured all of the Nancy Drew books. I didn’t care that I read them over and over. Books have become so much of my life that they have taken over corners in every room. My husband shares a love of the written word and he puts my book collection to shame!
I long to have a home one day where it can afford me to make myself a nice reading nook. A girl can dream, right?
Okay, so I like to read. The next “logical” step would be to write, right? (Get it??) Well, that is what I do every day. It took me a while to understand that I didn’t have to have a published novel to be a writer. For as long as I can remember I have written – whether it be stories, letters, poetry, notes to the cute boys (yes, I was a big flirt), or journaling. Writing is in my blood. I strive to actually publish my own novels and novellas, and I know one day I will. But for now, I plod away, typing and writing my thoughts, emotions, and ideas.
Not too long ago, I began to realize that my left brain had been under-stimulated and that I needed to find an outlet. Editing came into the picture and I suddenly knew that it was second nature to me. A friend stepped out in faith, knowing the kind of person I was, and asked me to edit her novel. From that time on, I get a thrill from being able to help each story be the best it can possibly be. I am so thankful for my friend’s encouraging words, and to this day she is my biggest cheerleader. Helping is what I love to do, and having an eye for detail is key when it comes to editing.
About the time the Lord gave me the confirmation about being a writer/editor, another “hobby” popped up that seemed only fitting. Another author-friend turned me on to the special world of fountain pens. I was hooked! I have a growing collection and I use them every day. I have even found a way to use them at work. Using a ball point pen anymore just isn’t doing it for me.
There is something unique and emotional about seeing that nib touch the paper and watching the ink flow onto the paper. What a special feeling! I know that some just don’t understand the draw, but to imagine my favorite author, Jane Austen, sitting at her tiny table and scratching away at the paper with her feather quill . . . knowing that I am getting that same experience when I write on my page . . .is intensely satisfying.
One of these days I am going to have to make myself a she-shed so I can surround myself with all of the things that I love so dearly!
Thank you for visiting my page. Feel free to look around and comment at any time. I am determined to update this website more often so things might change from time to time. Know that I personally read everything that you write and that I LOVE making new friends! You will see, once you visit my different pages, that I am diverse. My blog will range from topics on reading and writing to my spiritual journey. I am determined to be as transparent as possible so that you might see that you are not alone in your journey on this earth.
Your Friend in Christ,
